Great little article from Creative Review about a forthcoming book that (in their words) will chart the design history of each of the crests of the 47 football clubs to have played in the Premier League since its inception in 1992.
Back in the early 80's when I was becoming aware of football and getting an education in Crest design from Panini sticker annuals, club crests might have swayed a curious 5 or 6 year old towards a certain team. I know people who actually made the decision to follow a team based on this alone (and have probably regretted that decision every day since). These days though it's the full package of the brand (players, sponsors, merchandise) which is the influencing factor on fledgling fans around the world.
I think this will be a real interesting book and I'll be putting my name down for a copy of this - looks like a good read and a great piece of football and design nostalgia.
